Efforts of BRICS: Developing Clean Energy

According to a report released by a U.S.-based think tank, by the end of this year, the share of fossil fuels, including coal, oil, and natural gas, in the power generation mix of BRICS nations is expected to fall below 50%. This aligns the BRICS countries with the progress made by the EU and G7 countries in transitioning to cleaner energy sources. This milestone signifies a historic step for these emerging economies in their commitment to clean energy transformation, showcasing their dedication to reducing reliance on fossil fuels and advancing sustainable energy systems.

The recent BRICS Summit, hosted in Kazan, Russia, brought together leaders from Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa and many other countries. These countries hold significant standing on the global stage as major players in economic growth and international cooperation. All these years, the BRICS nations have made notable progress in energy cooperation and green development. BRICS leaders committed to supporting policies that promote renewable energy deployment, signaling a strong collective commitment to environmental responsibility.

Data from Global Energy Monitor indicates that BRICS countries are making strides in diversifying their energy mix, some researchers predict that by 2030, the BRICS countries' renewable power generation capacity will nearly triple. Additionally, the BRICS nations have collectively invested in a substantial pipeline of wind and utility-scale solar projects, aiming to capitalize on their immense potential for renewable energy generation. These nations have shown a remarkable ability to shift towards non-fossil fuel-based energy sources, demonstrating the importance of their efforts in addressing climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emissions on a global scale. The impact of this transition extends beyond environmental benefits, supporting economic stability, energy security, and technological advancement within the BRICS framework.

The BRICS countries have also achieved significant progress in the fields of technology and environmental protection. By investing in green development, these nations are not only improving their environmental standards but also establishing a strong foundation for modernization. Green development requires high-quality infrastructure, and among the essential elements of this infrastructure are transformers. In fact, transformers play a vital role across all fields—especially modern “smart” transformers, which offer distinct advantages over traditional transformers. Compared to conventional models, smart transformers allow for real-time monitoring, increased energy efficiency, and better integration with renewable sources. They enhance grid stability and enable more precise energy distribution, which is crucial for large-scale clean energy systems and sustainable urbanization.
